Japanese lunch topping

Here’s a photo of today’s lunch. Take a closer look at the topping! 😉

Rice with tiny fish as topping

Yes, those are tiny dried fish. It’s probably well know that Japanese food includes a wide range of seafood, and I’m not surprised anymore when I walk through the supermarket and see lots of different kinds of fish and octopus (whole or just tentacles), but a few weeks ago I was surprised to see the nearest supermarket selling small fish that were still alive. I’m not sure what you’re supposed to do with them – well, of course eat them, but how?
