Here’s something I suspect some of you have been waiting for – a normal household product branded with manga style characters: Curry. I also bought an expensive paprika at the same store. If you know katakana, look at the label to find the reason for the price, everyone else will have to wait until the end of this post. There are four cute, girly characters on the curry box, notice the different colors, hairstyles and clothes. In case anyone should have doubted I’m really in Japan that should be fixed by now. 😛
The box contains two pouches of curry, which have some of the same characters on them. Also included: a shiny sticker.
After heating the curry up and adding rice it looks like this:
So no, it’s not pink or anything, and it tastes like there’s a lot of carrot in it. I bought and ate this on Friday. Since then, I’ve seen some more food products with these characters on them. Does anyone know where they are from?
The solution for the paprika question: The paprika is from the Netherlands and has travelled even further to Japan than I have. I wonder why they don’t grow paprika here or at least import them from somewhere closer. And to wrap this up: A picture I took on the way to one of the supermarkets around here. It’s a pretty typical Japanese neighborhood. I need to try the local Ramen places some time…
